HealthPlan
The HealthPlan is a standard healthcare programme recommended for most individuals and families. Patients can register wherever they live; however home visits will generally only be available to patients living within a 10 mile radius of Salisbury. By paying an affordable annual or monthly subscription, HealthPlan entitles you to unlimited use of the Practice and includes the following:
- A full annual health check. All patients are encouraged to have this done; by having regular health checks, any changes can be detected early and appropriate action taken.
- Any number of consultations with a doctor or the practice nurse.
- Detailed advice for overseas travel (for business or pleasure) - we are a designated Yellow Fever centre and can provide a full range of travel vaccinations; you don’t even need to worry about remembering when you need your booster vaccinations, we will remind you. We can also screen patients who frequently fly, especially to long haul destinations, for thrombophilia (a condition that predisposes to the development of deep vein thrombosis).
- Family planning advice.
- Maternity care.
- Home visits within a 10 mile radius of Salisbury.
- A full vaccination service, including annual 'flu vaccinations.
Although the HealthPlan check is available annually, as part of the subscription, it is also available as part of the general health screen for individuals not registered at the practice.
The annual health check includes the following:
For adults and children:
- A full physical examination; including a breast examination in women and a prostate examination and PSA blood test in men over 45
- A detailed assessment of heart & lung function, looking particularly at cardiovascular risk. From the physical examination and a test of fasting cholesterol levels, we can provide a 10 year risk assessment of cardiovascular risk
- A urine test for diabetes, kidney problems or hidden bleeding from the urinary tract, which can indicate cancer
- A test to detect hidden bleeding from the bowel (as a screening test for bowel cancer) for patients over 40
In addition, for women: A cervical smear, as required
In addition, for children: A height, weight and development assessment
Although a cardiovascular risk assessment is included in the annual health check, it can be undertaken individually for non registered patients.
In men, the biochemistry screen measures the level of PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen). The level of PSA rises with the development of cancer of the prostate gland and this test, together with the physical examination, allows for the early detection of this condition.
With the increasing incidence of asthma, especially in children, and worries over environmental pollution, we are particularly concerned to assess lung function and have sophisticated equipment to do this. We also provide a detailed check of heart function, both in adults and children. Unrecognised heart problems, in adults and children, can lead to sudden and unexplained illness or even sudden death.
For patients who wish even more detailed health screening, the Practice can offer a more indepth healthcare package; HealthPlan Plus. Each healthcare package benefits from additional healthcare 'extras', which are listed under 'Optional Extras'.
HealthPlan Plus
HealthPlan Plus entitles patients to the detailed health assessment provided within HealthPlan, plus a more detailed and comprehensive blood test, providing a more detailed assessment of individual’s haematology and biochemistry, together with a vision and hearing test as detailed below:
Haematology These are very helpful tests for the health of the body. They assess any abnormality of blood cells (for instance, anaemia may be the first sign of serious disease of the gastro-intestinal tract) and any abnormality of plasma viscosity, an indicator for inflammatory, infective or malignant disease.
Biochemistry These tests assess the function of the kidneys, the liver and calcium metabolism. They identify any tendency to diabetes. Function of the thyroid gland is measured.
